STANTHORPE, QLD - BATTLE OF THE CORAL SEA DINNER - SATURDAY 1 MAY 2010

We may be new, but we are not slow. Stanthorpe Sub Section has set off at a cracking pace –In March - being involved in The Apple and Grape Festival in Stanthorpe and organizing the Qld Naval Band to take part in the festivities and also providing a Beat to Quarters and a Concert for about two hours in our local club. On Saturday, 1 May 2010 we held a Battle of the Coral Sea dinner at Felsberg Winery. The winery is owned by one of our members Peter Orr and his lovely wife Karen. Peter says that he joined up offering to use the winery for meetings and it snowballed from that into the idea of a Coral Sea Battle dinner.

On the night, Peter and his staff served up a mouth-watering dinner, with alternate serves of chicken cacciatore and lamb shanks and a range of decadent deserts – and of course, a selection of unbeatable wines. Well done Peter and Karen and staff.

Our VIP guests on the night were National President Les Dwyer and his wife Lynda and Qld State VP Kevin Drinkwater and his wife Denise. Along with about 50 other guests and a table of Italian diners – they all had a thoroughly enjoyable evening, with some gaining tertiary qualifications for completion of a quiz centred on the Battle of the Coral Sea.
